GM/Daewoo "Winstorm" ---OR--- Chevrolet "Captiva"?

I bought a SUV in Korea. GM/Daewoo Winstorm, 2007, 2.0L V-4(yea I know it tiny), AWD. The dealership debadged it and now it's a Chevrolet Captive.....sounds AU to me.

I can not figure out what would this be in the states because I want to purchase a few items. Any help with how and where to by itmes?

The Winstorm is available in ASEAN markets, and in Europe, the Middle East and South America as the Chevrolet Captiva. In Australia, the Winstorm is marketed as the Holden Captiva. The Opel Antara, a derivative of the Daewoo Winstorm, will be available in North America for the 2008 model year, but badged as the second generation Saturn VUE.

Two engines are available for the Winstorm, a 150 hp (112 kW) straight-4 2.0-litre common rail turbodiesel unit developed with VM Motori and a 225 hp (168 kW) V6 3.2 L Alloytec sourced from Holden.

Wait...you bought this car IN KOREA, then...the KOREAN dealership changed the badge? That's odd. AFAIK, the Daewoo brand is still sold there.

The Chevy Captiva is the badge on exported versions of that car in most markets. Though I'm not entirely certain whether all Chevy Captivas are actually made in Korea. The Winstorm is roughly the same as the Chevy Equinox or Saturn Vue in the US.

Make sure if you're trying to get US powertrain components that it's for the same engine, though.

Oh yeah, and if you're thinking of it, chances are you cannot import it to the US, and you will not be able to for about 25 years. It isn't legal to do so.

Also, that's an INLINE 4, not a V-4. V-4s haven't been used in anything but a few motorcycles and boats for almost 30 years.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V4

GM has taken over Daewoo all over the world .It is marketing Daewoo products with the Chevy brand.Nothing to worry everything is the same , the perfomance is not degraded .

Keep your cool .

Best car for a budget?

Ive done a lot of research based on the availability and need of a type of car.Basically its going to be a car for my mom as im going to be needing one only after i get my license. That's in a few more months now.

In U.A.E currency my Budget is at about 100k.And the cars i have on my mind so far are:

Chevrolet captiva 60k basic options

Nissan Altima 73k Basic options

Honda Accord 82k Basic Options

Mercury Milan 75k Basic options

The above cars mentioned are all new and showroom prices.Along wit hese my other optional choice would include showroom pre-approved used cars.

Mercedes c200 2008 Classic 115k

And probably a bmw 3 series if i get the right price.

What i look for in a car?Coupe or not ddoesn'tmatter. But a sedan or a 4wd preferably as i need a lot of storage space.A strong and durable car with good power and average resale value.Luxurious in its range. And the car should ddefinitely ook good.

Thats all..So i hope some one out there could help me out and if u suggest a car of some other brand too,Its fine.

I would stay away from Chevy or Mercury (Ford), Nissan is cheaper, but I'm a Honda guy. Go Honda, better resale value.

For the safety reasons buy any euro car. Dont ever go in for japnese or korean car. American cars are also perfect to buy. Safety is a matter of concern these days.

Do I need a 200 amp alternator, amps consime 75+75+47=197 amps?

I have two subwoofer amps that consume 75 amps a piece and another 4 channel amp consuming 47 amps for a total of 197 amps.

1. Should I get a 200 amp alternator or go a little bigger for the rest of the cars accessoires?

2. Does the brand of the vehicle and alternator matter, can they be mixed?

If this matters, the engine is a four cylinder, 1991 cc, desiel.

Vehicle brand is a GM/Daewoo Captiva -or- Winstorm, they call them different names depending on where you are. I live in South Korea. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Captiva

Thanks alot people!~

Google "car stereo big 3 upgrade"; OEM electrical isn't geared for amplifiers, it's just a fact of life. The big three involves upgrading connections between: battery and alternator, battery and chassis, engine to chassis. These are the high current paths that are typically overlooked on stereo installs. Then upgrade your battery to something like an Optima yellow top, these batteries offer better discharge rates over OEM equipment, and they won't suffer permanent damage if you drain them fully.

If you feel like you're still suffering from light dimming, a capacitor may assist. Only after these upgrades, would I consider throwing down on an alternator if I still had problems. Besides, you're not constantly drawing 197 amps; that's what you'll be pulling right as your fuses blow. You'll never push it that hard unless you enjoy listening to distortion / clipped signals.

toygasm is right on everything, i myself have tried to get a bigger alternator and found it is extremely costly if you have the money go for it any alternator may work only custom brackets and pulley swaps are needed but room in the engine compartment may be a factor and bigger alts may put a strain on a 4 cylinder esp a diesel resulting in power loss.

a second deep-cycle battery with low Resistance and a isolator or regulator should work.

i have 6 amps on a 60 amp i think alternator and an optima deep cycle has not let me down i could get better performance w a 120 or larger alternator but i just do occasional maintenance charges on my 2nd.battery in my garage and everything is fine. if you have the money go for it bet a second Battery would save you a few hundred american dollars at least. and don't ever buy a cheap high output you will only get power when driving and may lose power when at idle

Is the Saturn Outlook the same as the Chevrolet Captiva/Daewoo Windstrom???

ALl of them look alike!!

No, the upcoming 2008 Saturn Vue will be the same as the Opel Antara. The Antara is based on the Chevrolet Captiva/Daewoo Winstorm. The new Vue is the first Saturn to be assembled outside the U.S. (It is assembled in Mexico), and will be available at select dealers in America by the end of June.

The Saturn Outlook is based on the same platform as the GMC Acadia. It is much larger than the Saturn Vue/Opel Antara, as it is a full-size crossover.

dude dont buy things from there

The Chevrolet "Captiva is not currently available in the United States(North America). It is available in most other parts of the world. Try getting some information from the parts manager at a large Chevy dealership... they may have a phone number in the files.

Chevrolet Captiva, Honda CRV or Toyota Rav4?

We're looking to buy a compact SUV but dont know which the best one is.

What we need in the SUV are:

1. fuel efficiency

2. safety features and storage space

3. resale value

4. the most accessories or "perks" that come with the standard price.

So generally, we're looking for one that's great value for money.

Which do you recommend?

Honda crv

it's expensive

but worth it

that spare tire on the back of the toy rav4 is a safety hazard

the honda has removed it.

not familiar with a captiva but Hondas are better than 95% of any chevy.

(former camaro owner, future corvette owner)

http://autos.msn.com/

,,^._.^,,

the crv honda. foreign cars lasr way longer than american made cars.

crv,rav,and chevy-in that order

CR-V

Go with the Honda.

The brand new Chevrolet Captiva.. what do you think?

A brand new motor from GM, this is the new Captiva, model ranges from the LS to the LTX.

With 2 brand new engines, which are the 2.4 Petrol and a brand new GM diesel, the 150BHP 2.0 litre, which comes both in manual and Auto.

Also brand new to GM is the new clever 4WD system, it actually reads the road for you, and then selects what you should be driving in 2WD or 4WD.

This Captiva can even sense Black Ice on the road before you can.

The Captiva even comes in 5 and 7 seats, which is brillant if like me you are a family taxi.

Price range from £16995 to £24995, which sounds expensive however check out its rivals, you'll see it way to cheap.

The Captiva is launched on the 23rd/24th of June, so go and have a look at this brand new concept vehicle, which mixes both Estate, MPV and 4X4 togther and see what you think.

how much were you paid to post this "AD"?

American cars are not a good investment, in fact probably the worst, ask any dealer they just don't hold their money.

A dealer just wont be interested in a part exchange deal.

The build quality is very poor, as is reliability.

Pay a bit more and go either German or japanese, they are far better engineered and much more reliable and hold their money very well.

you will lose a lot of money if you buy American , I hope you don't.

Which is better to buy? Mitsubishi Outlander, Honda CRV, Toyota Rav4 or Chevrolet Captiva? Why?

I'm opening my options of what is better. And also What is GEAR RATIO? Thanks in advance.

Honda Cr-V

Highs: Smooth powertrain, handling, rear seat, interior flexibility, controls, crash-test results, reliability.

The redesigned CR-V is an improvement over its boxy predecessor. The four-cylinder engine is more energetic and refined than some competitors' V6 engines. Fuel economy is good at 21 mpg overall. The five-speed automatic is very smooth and responsive. Handling is fairly agile and secure, and the ride is firm yet supple. The rear seat is roomy and folds in three sections. The flat floor enhances leg room. The tailgate is now a conventional lift-up rather than the swing-out style. Road noise has been reduced, but the new styling has compromised cargo space and visibility. A navigation system and rear backup camera are available.

for a low cost alternative look at the Kia Rondo

http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/default.aspx?state=new&make=Kia&model=Rondo

check here for details on gear ratio:

http://www.howstuffworks.com/gears.htm

well I would suggest you buy an american made car so I guess the chevy but never heard of it. We need to keep all the jobs we can in the country

honda CRV is the best from all of these

check Edmunds.com.

Who has a Chevrolet Captiva?

please share your experience with the captiva.

i love the look and im getting one but i'd like to know how it performs.

fuel efficiency, comfort, re-sale value etc.

thanks!

To begin with, it has a diesel CRDI VCDi engine with a displacement of 1991 cc. It delivers an excellent power at 150 PS@4000 rpm and a superior torque 320 Nm@ 2000 rpm, thereby delivering excellent acceleration and performance even at low speeds. The engine is developed in collaboration with VM Motari.

The Chevrolet Captiva comes with 5 gear manual transmission, with the ability to seat a maximum of seven people. It is equipped with a standard power assisted rack and pinion steering. It can even manoeuvre tight spaces with a turning radius of 5.8 meters.

In the looks section, the vehicle is provided with strong wheel cut outs and a powerful shoulder line. The front fenders are equipped with air intake ports that add a futuristic touch to the Captiva. The indicator lights, which are embedded in the rear view mirror add to the overall sophistication. Overall, the vehicle presents a neat sporty look.

The Captiva is also a clear winner in the interiors section. The Chevrolet Captiva is equipped with illuminated ignition key dock, audio control on steering wheels, tilt adjustable rear restraints, sliding arm rest with dual compartments, rear arm rest with storage area, beige leather interiors and even a sporty leather knob.

The Captiva incorporates self levelling suspension technology (ALRC - automatic level ride control) for a firmer ride no matter whatever surface it encounters on the roads in urban and country settings.

Along with front and rear ventilated discs, the Chevrolet Captiva looks really captivating with 17" alloy wheels. These come along with 17" R17 tubeless tyres. Additionally, it has a high ground clearance of 197 mm to negotiate a variety of surfaces. The Chevrolet Captiva also has premium safety features for a vehicle of its genre. It has a rigid monocoque body with ABS and EBD with dual front airbags for enhanced safety.

The Chevrolet Captiva is now available in a range of five exciting colours - Poly Silver, Kandinsky Red, Pearl White, Linen Beige, and Granada Black.

I live in india, i want to buy a new SUV , i am confused between ford endeavour and chevrolet captiva??

i am focussing on all the features and if u can suggest somr other car , so please do!! cost is not a factor but my limit is around 20 lakhs (+/-)!!

Go with the Chevy.

Is the chevrolet captiva good value for money?

When you consider the competition it definitely is very good value for money. It's competitors are:-

1. Ford Endeavour - Big, bulky SUV!

2. Honda CR-V - Very Smooth and Suave but it's petrol!

3. Hyundai Tucson - Looks quite dated and unappealing!

4. Mitsubushi Pajero - The old boxy model is available!

The Captiva is based on General Motors Theta platform, which is used in different dimensions through several GM brands, in the American Chevrolet Equinox, Pontiac Torrent, Saturn Vue, as well as in Suzuki's new Grand Vitara (GM owns twenty percent of Suzuki Motors) and in the coming Opel Antara SUV which will replace the Isuzu-based Frontera. It is believed that GM will use the Theta platform too for other models to come at Cadillac, Saab and even Hummer. So the captiva is a Korean made American badged Daewoo.Keep it away Go fora japanese brand.hey you have the CRV there or the Grand Vitara? There are options...but not really the captiva.

Chevy captiva is definately a very good car, it rides & drives extrmely well, the only flaw in this SUV being having no option of a 4WD system, which u expects for cars of this statur and price. Nevertheless, rarely do any of us uses the 4WD in india, still its a verry good buy. & has got a much beeter drive and ride than Honda CRV.

chevrolet captiva is good choice, but there so many other choice of car available in the same price. Be compare features and specification and than decide. Compare herewith cars.

NO

ford endeavour & Mitsubishi Pajaro are much better.

Which is the difference between Chevrolet Captiva Sport vs Chevrolet Equinox?

This Suv's are selling in Europe and bring to Mexico, any body know when its selling in America?

Same vehicle, different name for the country it is sold in. BTW, I bought an Equinox 5 weeks ago, and I LOVE IT! I average 19-20 mpg, with mostly in town driving.

How do i maintain the lower differently colored side panels of my chevrolet captiva?

I own a chevrolet captiva (black), and I find that the lower door panels that is colored grey is fading, how do i maintain the color? the suv is only one year old.

wash and wax it will get the paint more shining and smooth and i bet it will last as long as it does not have rust near it
